March For Our Lives Evil Eye Glove Workshop

March For Our Lives

Please join us at The Nest for an informal workshop led by Gudrun Johnston, a well-known knitwear designer from Scotland, to make Evil Eye Gloves to wear at the March For Our Lives event in Reno on March 24th.

Much like the pink pussy hats for the Women's March, these gloves are meant to show solidarity. The symbolism of the evil eye is an act of protection, but more so than just being defensive, it represents a willful gazing, of not turning away. The gesture of putting them on gloves symbolizes both "hands up, don't shoot" and "stop."

This workshop will take place from 5-8pm on Wednesday the 14th of March, which is also the day of the National School Walk Out.

If you know some knitting basics then you can easily do this project, and there will be knitting help on hand. Please bring US 8 needles, and if you have any spare yarn, feel free to bring it along as well.

Here is a link to the project should you wish to read more about it or get a head start:

If you don’t know how to knit (like me!), we will have some alternative materials for making these gloves. Please feel free to bring any felted wool or patch making materials like felt if you have any to spare.

We are trying to make as many of these as we can and will be accepting donations that will be given to the organizers of the march to help fund the event. Any leftover funds will be donated to Moms Demand Action and Nevada Gun Safety Coalition.

We hope you can come and help us create a sea of eyes to take to the march!
